THE BRUTAL BEAUTY OF CYCLING Neorealist Cycling in the Photography of Kramon
From May 3 to June 15, 2025, San Daniele del Friuli will host the photography exhibition The Brutal Beauty of Cycling, dedicated to the work of Kristof Ramon, a world-renowned photographer known in the cycling world as Kramon. The exhibition will take place on the first floor of the Monte di Pietà, in the historic center of the prosciutto town.
The official opening is scheduled for May 3 at 6:00 PM, in the presence of the artist. However, the exhibition will already be open to the public in preview starting that morning, as part of the San Daniele Sboccia event, which every year transforms the heart of San Daniele del Friuli into a stunning floral salon.
Kristof Ramon is one of the most acclaimed cycling photographers in the world today. Born in Belgium, he began his career in film and television before fully dedicating himself to sports photography in 2009. His style is unique and immediately recognizable; his photos are not typical sports reportage images but instead focus on the fatigue, tension, and brutal beauty of cycling.
His first experience photographing cycling dates back to 2005, and since then – under the pseudonym Kramon – he has covered the three Grand Tours (Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta a España) as well as all the most prestigious cycling classics, from Milan–San Remo to Paris–Roubaix, from the Tour of Flanders to the Strade Bianche. His first book, The Art of Suffering: capturing the brutal beauty of road cycling (Lawrence King Publishing, London, 2023), sold out in just a few months.
An Event Organized by We Like Bike
The exhibition is curated by the We Like Bike Consortium, already the promoter of important cultural initiatives related to the world of cycling. As a reference point for cycle tourism in the hill country, We Like Bike has been bringing high-profile events to San Daniele del Friuli since 2019, promoting cycling culture through exhibitions, talks, and performances.
This exhibition is a must-see for photography and cycling enthusiasts alike—a visual journey that captures the power, beauty, and harshness of one of the world’s most captivating sports.
